Next course January 2015
Power Walking - Many doctors recommend it and there are lots of studies which extol its benefits. It's simple. It's enjoyable. You can do it virtually anywhere. And, when it's done right, walking can blast away fat as fast as jogging—maybe faster. Even better, power walking is easier on your joints, since you hit the ground with less than half the force you do when you jog.
The difference between this and what I call a 'Bluewater Walk' is a more purposeful stride, better use of arms and an increase in pace. Once you have got the hang of it you will find it an invigorating workout with a good calorie burn effect too.
Our Power Walkers wear trainers rather than walking boots, they are more flexible on your feet and allow for greater freedom of the toes and ankles, we wear loose comfortable clothes and walk in all weathers!
This course is aimed at those who love to exercise outside & and prefer their exercise to be gentle impact.
Whilst on the course you will do a gentle warm up, then the Power Walk which will done in intervals to slowly increase your fitness levels. By week 6 you will be covering a distance of about 4 miles!
Absolutely no experience is necessary, all you need is a sense of humour and a decent bra.
All sessions will meet at Hollybush Recreation Ground in Sevenoaks, there are toilets, free parking and a lovely cafe for a hot drink at the end of your run.
Course cost £35 for 6 weeks
Sports scientists at Washington University discovered that Power Walking at 4.5 mph can burn almost as many calories as someone jogging at about the same speed (223 calories per 30 minutes) because you're using the same amount of energy to stay in motion. Of course 4.5 mph is a fast walk; if you haven't been walking regularly, you shouldn't expect to hit that speed when you first start, we start at a slower pace and use the same fat-burning power walking form to work up to this speed.
